Low Traffic Makes Every Crawled Page Count More
When your site isn't pulling huge traffic yet, every crawl budget decision matters more than it would on a site Google already visits fifty times a day. We learned this the slow way, watching pages sit un-indexed for weeks because nothing on the site pointed to them. Internal links are how you tell a crawler, and a reader, which pages actually matter, and this is the placement list we ran during a focused link sprint on older posts.
Where We Actually Put the Links
- Hardware guides → /buy-miners: dropped in wherever we're already discussing model selection, not bolted onto the intro.
- Profitability posts → /profitability-calculator: linked right next to an ROI example, so the reader can go run their own numbers immediately.
- Hosting articles → /hosting: placed in the section comparing self-hosting complexity against paying someone else to deal with it.
- General ops content → /mining-hub/playbooks: linked at the exact point where a reader is asking "okay, what do I actually do next?"
- Solo setup and failover posts → MySoloPool dashboard and learn pages: cross-site links connecting Hashrate Farm content to the pool someone would actually use.
Anchor Text Rules We Actually Follow
- Anchors describe the destination in the reader's terms — "bitcoin miner hosting cost model," not "click here."
- We don't reuse the exact same anchor across every article linking to the same page; it reads as spammy, and it probably is.
- Links go inside real paragraphs with context around them, not stacked in a footer-style block at the bottom.
- If a link doesn't help the person reading right now, it doesn't go in — the SEO benefit is a side effect, not the goal.
How We Ran the Sprint
We pulled our top 10 legacy posts by impressions in Search Console, cross-referenced them against pages we actually wanted crawled more, and added exactly one high-confidence contextual link per post — not five, not ten. Before calling it done, we checked that every destination page returned a 200 and carried the right canonical tag, then logged each placement in a simple sheet: source URL, target URL, anchor text, date. That log has already saved us twice when a page got restructured and we needed to know what pointed to it.
One well-placed contextual link on an active page can do more than a dozen low-relevance links scattered across pages nobody reads anymore.
Caveat: this isn't a substitute for actually having pages worth crawling. If the destination page is thin or duplicate content, an internal link just gets a bot to a page it's going to bounce off of anyway. Fix the page first, then link to it.

What Actually Moved After the Sprint
We didn't expect a ten-link pass to do much on its own, and it didn't rewrite our traffic overnight. What it did do, within a couple of weeks, was get several previously orphaned or near-orphaned pages re-crawled and showing impressions again in Search Console — pages that had been sitting untouched for months. That's the realistic outcome here: internal links fix a distribution problem, not a content quality problem. If a page still isn't earning clicks once it's crawled and indexed, the fix is in the content, not another link pointing at it.
Caveat worth repeating: don't treat this as a one-time project. New posts go up, old posts go stale, and the linking graph needs a re-check every few months or you're back to orphaned pages within a year.
